Free Yourself From Anxiety

Updated: Jun 22, 2021

Anxiety and worry can take over your life if you allow it to, and constant stress and worry can make us physically ill. The good news is that there are ways to help alleviate anxiety, some holistic, some not, and whatever else is in between. The trick is to find what works for you and stick to it. Of course, it’s not going to be easy by any means, but the results are life-changing and completely worth it. When you have a handle on this part the rest will naturally fall into place and things will be as they should be.

The first step on the path to freedom is to figure out exactly what you're stressing about. Is it something you can change? Or is it something you have no control over? By determining the root, and getting to the core of your anxiety, you can better understand what triggers those thoughts and emotions and what you can do to overcome them.

For example, if you're feeling anxious about losing your job, you have the capability to change this worry. You can work harder to prove that you're an indispensable part of the team, you can start searching for a new job, or you can start that business that you’ve been holding on to for so long. Instead of worrying and stressing yourself out about it, do something that will change the outcome of the source of your worry. Taking action is the best way to defeat anxiety.

Truth be told, there are plenty of situations in your life that you can change if you are willing to do what it takes to change them. Leave bad relationships, change stressful jobs, lose weight if you need to, whatever it is you are the only one in control of that. You already know it takes so put it into action. Little by little, your self-esteem will grow, your confidence will return, and your life will begin to look a lot different, things will be a lot clearer to you. That’s where the freedom lies.

By determining the root of your anxieties, and developing ways to turn them into something positive, you can often overcome them.

Here are some tips and techniques to help you manage your anxiety:

1. Know your anxieties. Write down and acknowledge exactly what is causing your anxiety, and include ways that you can change the outcome. Knowing what you're up against is the key to feeling better about yourself and your current situation.

2. Breathe. Now that you know what you need to change, sit back, and take a full deep breath, then exhale slowly. Repeat as many times as it takes to bring you relief. This form of relaxation can help you calm your racing heart and give you peace of mind.

  • Rapid breathing from anxiety can lead to a panic attack, but don't let it get that far. Breathe deeply and slowly as soon as you feel yourself become worried or anxious.

3. Visualize. Perhaps one of the most effective ways to overcome anxiety is the technique of visualization. Choose a quiet space in your home, light some candles, and close your eyes. Even if you can’t get to candles or a quiet space right at the moment, still close your eyes and concentrate.

  • Imagine yourself in your ideal situation, you know, the dream job, that dream house, the dream partner, and anything else that you dream of. Feel how calm you are and visualize letting go of your worries. Continue to take deep cleansing breathes as you think about how happy you'll be once your source of stress has been diminished. Think of how free you’ll feel once you release the burden of worry from your spirit. Positive visualization can help you move toward the happier vision you've created in your mind.

4. Use positive affirmations. When things get rough and you feel yourself losing control, repeat a positive statement over and over in your head. Remind yourself how beautiful and smart you are, and how capable you are of solving your problems without worrying about them. If you're in need of a job, you can repeat something like: "I am valuable and hardworking, and I’m worthy of a fulfilling new opportunity!"

  • Reaffirming positive thoughts repeatedly can help you believe that anything is possible because it is. God's power has no limits, and the power of your mind is endless.

5. Diet and exercise. Eating a clean and well-balanced diet, free from chemicals and inflammation-causing properties, along with exercising regularly can physically help you handle stress and anxiety. The stronger the body is, the stronger the mind is. It's a fact: if you abuse your body with junk foods or drugs and alcohol, your body and mind will react in a negative way.

  • Take good care of your body and it will help take care of your worries.

6. Seek support. Talk to someone who has been in the same situation. Reaching out to friends and family or seeking professional help can do wonders to help you get rid of your anxiety.

  • Once you've seen that someone else has gone through and overcome what you're experiencing, it gives you great hope that you can do the same.

Anxieties are a part of everyday life, and they can affect some more than others. How you choose to manage them is what makes the difference. Stop letting anxiety control you. Take the reins and let anxiety and worries know that you are the one in the driver's seat of your life. Once you have acknowledged your anxiety struggles and changed the narrative of that story, you will be able to rewrite your story and rebuild your life.
